The central valley or the plateau
that surrounds San José has 1.165 m or 3.880
feet of altitude. According to a study done by the
NASA, because of its location and an almost constant
year round temperature of 20 C or 68 F, its climate
is considered the healthiest in the planet.
Depending on the region and
altitude, you can enjoy a great variety of micro-climates:
green cold and rainy mountain ranges, where many milk
farms have been established; rainy and tropical dry
forests; the humid Caribbean coast and the dry Pacific;
and the cloudy forest. Here you can find almost everything!
In the highest area with an available hotel (at 3.000
m o 9.000 feet of altitude), you can see frost almost
every night. This great variety of climates allows
the existence of multiple animal and vegetable life
forms: 9.000 plant species with flowers, 1.200 orchid
species, 850 bird species, 205 mammal species and
376 reptiles and amphibian species.
